Small World, Big Backyard

Though we live in one of the largest cities on the planet, it still feels manageable, with intimate neighborhoods, all with different vibes. On Friday, this large city felt even smaller when baby A and I met a former co-worker and friend from Darden out for lunch at Bryant Park (it was baby A's first subway ride!). The weather was perfect--not too hot nor humid. We had a nice time catching up, and it was a nice way to end the week and to get out of the house.

The weather this weekend has been just delightful. Cool, almost fall-like. D and I spent Saturday at home waiting for the delivery of our new tv stand, which he then filled with his home theatre components. We spent Saturday night in our big backyard, Central Park. We spread out a blanket and had a picnic dinner in the park, overlooking a formal pond with neon remote controlled sailboats. We talked about how fun it will be when baby A is old enough to drive one of the remote controlled sailboats--time is going to fly! Already, our tiny newborn is quickly approaching her 2 month birthday, and she has well surpassed the double digit weight marker (over 10 pounds now, for sure).

Today was a "honey do" day, finishing up final move-in tasks at home. We hung a large mirror, the final set of curtains, and some towel hooks for the bathroom. We also took our daily family walk, this time foregoing Central Park for the dog park along the East River instead. Lola met two new doggie friends at the park, and D and I hit it off with their parents, a nice couple from Texas who moved to the city a month ago. It was nice to meet other people, but then there's the awkward situation--do you suggest getting together again and asking for their number? Almost like the awkardness of dating again.

Tomorrow, when D heads back to start his second week at work, I'm joining another friend from Darden for a baby massage instruction class. (Our girls share the same birthday!) Talk about a small world--there are so many people from UVA who live in the city. Or, someone is always visiting. I have a co-worker who is visiting this week, and I can't wait to see her too.

So, just 'cause it's a big city doesn't mean it's not still a small world.
