Reaching Milestones
On Sunday night, baby A slept through the night. I had to wake up at 4 a.m. on Monday morning just to check on her, and there she was soundly sleeping. I thought maybe it was a fluke, but she slept through the night again last night as well. I hope we continue this pattern! At a little of 9 weeks (2 months) old, my sweet little baby is growing by leaps and bounds. Not only is she physically bigger than when she was born, but she's reaching developmental milestones as well. Not only does she coo, but she almost shouts new sounds: gurgles and garbles and other things that babies say. She smiles all the time now but hasn't quite mastered a giggle yet. She's doing great at practicing holding her head up, but she can't go it alone for an extended period of time yet. Before I know it, she'll be ready for the Bumbo to practice sitting up by herself. She long ago found her hands but is now an expert at sucking her thumb, something I did as a child as well. The pediatrician says this is a good thing since it means she's a self-soother (also probably partially why she can sleep through the night--if she wakes up, she can put herself back to sleep sucking her fingers). It may not seem like much, but these little milestones are just amazing to me. From two little cells comes this miracle of a person who is like a sponge, absorbing as much as possible from this world. She finds wonder in the elevator buttons, in the trees at the park, in the natural light of the window. We had been looking for an activity mat for her and found one this past weekend. She loves the bright colors and dangling interactive baubles (D calls it "flair"). Everything is just new and amazing. What a way to look at the world, through my baby's eyes.
