Chasing Pidgits

My mom was in NYC last week, helping us move in (thanks mom!). We didn't make her work the whole time--we took her on our walks and showed her some of the sights. One common sight are New York's infamous pigeons, or, as mom called them when she was a little girl, pidgits. Lola is getting settled in the city. There aren't as many squirrels here as in Virginia or Georgia, but there sure are a lot of pidgits she'd love to chase!

My mom's childhood word for pigeons reminds me of the nuances of the English language. Or, more specifically, accents. My family has teased that my baby will come visit from New York with her best Joey Tribiani "How YOU Doin'?" except that she'll say ya'll instead of you. I insist that my baby girl will be a Southerner through and through, in spite of where she may live. No Yankee accents for her!

It's soon time to take Lola out for her afternoon walk so that she can continue her wishful thinking of chasing pidgits.
